About these indexes

The present literature index is closely related to a general treatise on Concrete Bridges, written by the undersigned and published jointly by Polyteknisk, Copenhagen, and Taylor and Francis, London.

 

The Index comprises a chronological list of publications related to concrete bridges and a subject index of the same publications as well as an index of authors.

 

The publications selected for inclusion in the index are primarily those which describe structures - or groups of structures - giving information on design concepts, structural configuration and safety analysis.

 

Publications that concern general statical problems have been listed only if related mainly to concrete bridges, whereas publications less specifically related to this subject have been omitted. However, this distinction has often been a matter of personal judgment. Codes of Practice, administrative regulations, etc. have not been entered in this index.

 

Most of the publications listed in this index appeared during the second half of the twentieth century, which was a period of great advances in concrete bridge design and construction, that to a large extent has determined the way such bridges are built today.

 

It is characteristic that technical subjects are often most thoroughly analyzed and discussed in the professional magazines shortly after the related problems first appeared; later-on the solution becomes general knowledge and does not attract attention, until years later may-be it re-appears, submitted to renewed scrutiny and reconsideration. This is one of the reasons for letting this index cover a relatively large span of years.

 

This literature index is basically the updated version of earlier ones published since 1969 by the Department of Structural Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark.

 

The present edition has been finalized concurrently with the general treatise on Concrete Bridges. The data treatment of the Index has been ensured by the editors of CONCRETE BRIDGES. Future updates of the Index are intended at regular time intervals.

Particular effort has been applied to ensure correctness of the data presented; however, the Author does not assume any responsibility except academic for possible errors or misunderstandings.
