This book offers a coherent and comprehensive introduction to the relatively new professional discipline called Facilities Management (FM). It can be used as a basic textbook for students at higher education and is also a useful reference book for practitioners within the field of FM.
The book provides a status of best practice in FM with particular focus on the situation in Denmark and the other Nordic countries. It defines the terminology of FM based on the new European standards, presents relevant theory, methods and tools, and covers all the main disciplines in FM like organisation, financial management, strategic planning, space management, property operation, services, ICT and sustainability with the main focus
on strategic and tactical levels of management.
The book includes a large number of figures, cases and checklists as well as a comprehensive list of terms and definitions.
The author is associate professor Per Anker Jensen, Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
The book is based on his many years of practical experience, active participation in the development of FM, and since 2005 on research and teaching at DTU. From 2008 he is head of Centre for Facilities Management Realdania Research, which is a new research centre supported by the private Danish foundation Realdania.
In 2007-8 he has the position as chairman of EuroFMs Research Network Group.
The book will be used in DTUs teaching of students in civil engineering and other building related engineering students at bachelor and master levels, but it can also be used for teaching students at other institutions and for candidates and practitioners participating in continuing education.
The practice orientation together with detailed lists of content for each chapter and the index also makes it suitable as a reference book for practitioners.
